Impressionist Landscapes
 of
Cape Cod, Boston and Beyond...

About (Biography)

Living on Cape Cod is a wonderful privilege for anyone, but especially for an artist.  This special place offers subjects which are often subtle and sometimes dramatic; the nostalgic scenery, all awash with sea-sky light, evokes memories of simpler times and more innocent stages of our lives. In nearby Boston, the artist meets an alternate set of challenges and opportunities: the sharp contrasts and crowded cityscapes can easily elude one’s sense of harmony and calmness.  As an artist, I have been attempting to interpret both environments as places of rich and varied beauty.

I approached the visual arts with renewed interest and determination when I moved to Cape Cod in 1988.  My own efforts at teaching have helped to reinforce and solidify my personal style which is basically impressionist.  I seek to capture the bright tones and rich textures of a wide variety of subjects in the city and by the sea.  I find oil painting best expresses the warmth and coolness of seaside colors and captures the value patterns of outdoor objects under various lighting conditions.  Whether it be a summer cottage in Chatham, a drifting sailboat on Pleasant Bay or a group of ice skaters in the Public Garden, I try to craft images which are always colorful, often nostalgic and sometimes whimsical.  I believe that visual arts should evoke vivid memories and inspire oneness with the world around us while eliciting warm emotions.
